Patrick Nugent is a former US Marine Corps Infantry Captain (now retired), who holds an MBA from the Wharton School of Business, MPA from Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and is currently the Team Captain for USA & Competitive Adaptive Sports Athlete training to compete in 2023 Invictus Games. Patrick is on a mission to encourage and inspire people facing adversity as well as to raise awareness for veterans’ issues and shedding light on the challenges faced by our veterans.

Heart of Invictus Documentary on Netflix
Watch Heart of Invictus, an inspirational documentary about the Invictus Games, set to come out August 30th, 2023. This documentary is a five-part series about the Invictus Games which is a global adaptive sporting event for wounded, injured, and sick veterans and members of the armed services internationally. The Duke of Sussex founded the event in 2014 to showcase and celebrate the veterans, as well as heal them through the link between sports and mental health. I will be competing in this year’s Invictus Games being held in Dusseldorf, Germany from September 9-17. I am Team USA’s captain and will be competing in powerlifting, indoor rowing, and cycling.

Invictus by William Ernest Henley
Read Invictus, a powerful poem by William Ernest Henley. This poem is drawn from Henley’s experience recovering from the amputation of his left leg. This poem was given to me by my Battalion Commander when I was in the hospital recovering from a gunshot wound, I suffered in the line of duty. The last two lines are the most memorable; they read, “I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.”
